Daniel J. Shapiro

DR. DANIEL J. SHAPIRO, age 90, died March 17, 2015. World War II Navy veteran. Beloved husband of the late Thelma Shapiro (nee Mandel); devoted father of Saj-nicole Joni of Cambridge, MA, Carol Anne Cohen, Clifford Shapiro (Darlene A. Vorachek) and Richard Shapiro (deceased); loving grandfather of Eric Cohen, Stephanie Cohen, Elizabeth Cohen and Alicia Shapiro; dear brother of Marya Weinstock (deceased). Daniel was a renowned and beloved pediatrician who took care of multiple generations of children and families throughout the Cleveland area. He spent most of his career in private practice and taught many new doctors as a member of the clinical faculty of University Hospitals. Later in his career he left private practice and joined the growing pediatrics team at the Cleveland Clinic. Daniel was a proud WWII veteran, serving as a naval officer in the Pacific. He was an avid tennis player and founding member of the Cleveland Racquet Club. Daniel enjoyed growing orchids, classical music and the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, travel and sharing time with friends and family. Services will be held at BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1985 S. TAYLOR RD., CLEVELAND HTS. on Sunday, March 22 at 11 AM. Interment Bet Olam Cemetery (Park Synagogue section). Please join the family at his daughter Carol Anne's home, located at 6057 Williamsburg Dr., Highland Hts., SUNDAY AFTER THE INTERMENT UNTIL 6 PM.
