Don was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Cleveland. He was deeply committed to the Cleveland community and had many lifelong friendships with other Cleveland natives. Together, this "pack of friends" established roots, built families together and remained close throughout the decades.
The 'love of his life", his wife of 58 years, Helen Mae Swerdlow (Mell) was his core. He often spoke of her as "the best thing that ever happened to me." Together, Mell and Don raised their three children, Pamela "Pam" Graham French), Robert "Bob", (Kaley Hummel), and Melissa "Missy", (Scott Schiller).
Don was known as "goopa" to his beloved grandchildren: Max Glaser (Amy), Charlie Glaser, Nick Glaser (Daniella) ,Sam Schiller, Will Schiller and Kimberly French (Eric Dunn)
Don joined his father in Dealers' Food Products, the family business he created in Cleveland in 1926. The business is now in its third generation as a food ingredient and confectionary wholesale Distributor. Dealers' Food Products will celebrate 100 years in 2026.
Don had a lifelong love of golf - a passion to continuously improve and an opportunity to share the sport and relax with his wife and friends.
Don had an incredible connection with children of all ages. He was committed to guiding and training them through sports--teaching skills, teaching about teamwork, and fairness. He was affectionately known as the "Commissioner" of Little League Baseball in Shaker Heights.
Don always presented a face of fairness in everything. He treated people from all walks of life with equal respect and compassion. And he genuinely enjoyed meeting people. We will carry his legacy with us forever.
