I was fortunate enough to work pretty closely with Betsy over the past 3+ years. I so appreciated her candor and her willingness to speak up when she questioned a decision. It was usually something that most of us were thinking but we’re too afraid to ask! She really enriched all of our lives and she will be missed. In her honor, even though I had never colored my hair before, I dyed the sides purple. To Betsy!

I'm not sure where to start - other than to say:
Thank you Betsy, for your friendship, for your mentorship, for answering my silly and my serious questions, for making time for me when I was in San Antonio, and when you were close enough for me to come to you.  Thank you for your quick wit and your laugh, I've thought a lot about all the brunches, lunches, and dinners we've had and laughs that went along with.  Thank you for keeping track of them - you have popped up in my FB memories a lot lately - and that is because you keep track of us all getting together.  Thanks for sharing your love of reading with me - lots of titles shared and loved. 
 Thanks for your courage - you were always so much braver than I ever thought I could be.  You asked questions that we were all afraid to - thank you for getting answers we needed.  I remember so many times thinking "GO BETS" and being so proud to be your friend.  And, so proud to have you on my side.  Thank you for your honesty too - if I needed a real answer - I got it from you. Thanks for the hugs and your authenticity.  I always knew if I got a hug or an 'I love you' from you, you meant it.  Real, honest, and heart-felt.

One of the last things you shared on FB was 'Betsy as a duck'.  That little duck with glasses on reminded me that no matter what you were, you were lovable. 

Thank you for being you, sweet Bets.  I will hold you close to my heart always so that you will never really be far away.

And to Betsy's family - thank you for sharing her with us.  We loved her so, and I know she loved you all immensely.  May loving memories give you peace in the coming days.

Betsy was a smart and funny woman!  She shared her knowledge and work ethic with others. She took time to stop and smell the roses and make memories and it was obvious she was close to and loved her family. I know she will be missed.

First - my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family; you have truly lost a special person. 
I had the pleasure of sharing a meal with Betsy and Natanya pre-pandemic during their trip to NYC. Betsy was planning a return visit, along with our friend Beverly. We all met at New College and remained friends all these years. 
I am so sad. Shocked. She was so excited about getting a place in Chicago - she texted me she was looking.  We don't get to choose our end. I am grateful for the time we had. Love to all. 


I am so sad. And I a so grateful for our friendship. 

I'll miss you, Bets.  I was looking forward to following your adventures into retirement.  You were the most inspirational, strong, fair, full of life boss I've ever had. I'm sad you're gone too soon.  May you rest in peace. 

Betsy Rubin was a force at USAA.  Any time Betsy was called upon for an underwriting situation she was always available to help with a perspective or solution that just made so much sense.  Betsy was highly intelligent and very compassionate.  

Sincere Condolence to the dear family for this loss . She will be missed. 

With a sad heart, sending my deepest sympathy to all of Betsy friends and beloved family.  We met years before USAA, and I was drawn to her unique lovable hippie personality; and Yes, at that time, she loved Ronnie Dove’s hair with colored “wings”  green, purple, or pink and copied him! Everyone at USAA loved her for this.  Betsy was fun to be with,  full of life,  always smiling, & made you laugh in any situation, yet delighted in learning how to resolve a problem and share it with you.  Also, loved her cats dearly.  Her gifts of knowledge and caring attitude, gained many friends naturally.  Betsy will be sorely missed, Gone too soon, May she rest in peace. 

I worked with Betsy on and off throughout my career at USAA.   She was a spitfire who never cowered from telling it like it is or should be and with the  knowledge and expertise to back it up.   She had the biggest heart and a great laugh.  We used to exchange book recommendations back in the day and I’m so sad that I  hadn’t seen her in person for awhile  and to be a recipient of her comforting hugs.  The reality of her passing has not really set in but the unfairness of it sits heavily.   I find some comfort in the fact that she loved and lived fiercely and did travel and experience a lot in life.  Hugs to her family and friends as you grieve.  Hold tight to your loved ones.

Upon my joining USAA Claims in 1985, Betsy already had been working in Policy Service and she stood out for the pink, blue or green hair highlights which were uncommon at the time.  She caught my attention right then and there! 

In 1989, Betsy and I were both accepted into Underwriting and it was then that we got to know each other. We trained in San Antonio together, in several extended trips, and worked alongside for years in Florida.  She was unique, outspoken, extremely intelligent, caring, funny and had a very clear sense of her own style.  I remember her love of family, luxury mini-vacations, cats, books and jewelry.  Her desk had every document published and she knew exactly where to find it!  She was blessed with an amazing memory and was not afraid to provide her valuable input for the betterment of projects.
Although you know this: she loved, loved, loved her family and especially you, Natanya Rubin. 
Once she moved to SA, I visited after she purchased her house and saw her whenever I traveled to town.  She was a joy to be around! 
It’s hard to believe she’s gone, so soon and before being able to enjoy all of the free time she had coming. 
I’m writing this with tears in my eyes which have kept pouring since I’ve heard the news. They are for all of us who will miss her.  So glad her passing was quick.

Betsy was an icon at USAA. I had heard of her many years before actually working with her. She could be intimidating because she was so darn smart. She was wickedly funny and a hard worker. A real pleasure to know and work with. She will be missed. 

I have referred to Betsy many times as a "force of nature"...full of energy, unstoppable, unforgettable.  She will be missed by many but not forgotten.

Betsy was a huge part of our work at The Waystation, a temporary rescue-only short term kennel for dogs in need. She was quick to offer just the right words of encouragement or insight when things got tough, and I often sought her advice about long term plans because she understood the mission and had such a wealth of common sense.  She swore that the hot sauce she would get in one of our fundraising auctions was the only thing that held the Cedar Flu at bay, and she absolutely loved the apple butter I made. 
Can't believe you're gone, my friend.

Betsy, I worked with you many years long ago. You are a USAA icon. You are the first thought to call as a ready reference. You had such a head full of knowledge and experience and were generous with sharing it. USAA was so lucky to have such a dedicated employee. USAA will not be the same. Thanks for all you did for the Tampa office when you were there and when you were just a call away.
