Joyce Rothschild, 66, of Shaker Heights, Ohio passed away from leukemia on March 15, 2025. Joyce was born in Cleveland on September 21,1958. Her 29-year marriage to Daniel Mansoor followed a ten-year friendship and their partnership was one of shared values, passions, and a love of family, friends, and Chautauqua. Their two daughters, Jesse and Emma, were the loves of her life and her best friends.
Joyce had been a talented artist since youth and pursued her passion as avocation and vocation. She graduated from Orange High School and was an honors graduate of Cornell University where she studied history and art. She moved to New York City after college, studying at School of Visual Art before being employed as a graphic artist. In her early days, Joyce made ends meet as the world’s worst cocktail waitress at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
Joyce’s passion for beauty and the arts led her to found Rothschild Design, a boutique graphic design practice which she managed for over three decades. Her loyal clients included multiple nonprofit hospitals in New York City, Metropolitan Life, NBA, Carnegie Hall, NYC Road Runners, and The Hunger Project among hundreds of diverse clients.
Her work led to remarkable experiences in her life’s journey. She frequently traveled to Southeast Asia to supervise printing and then took time to explore an eclectic variety of exotic destinations. She created a Peter Max poster in celebration of the Statue of Liberty Centennial and enjoyed the floating celebration in New York Harbor as a guest of the US Navy. In 1986 she was selected to a US State Department delegation to the then-Soviet Union, to introduce American graphic design and production to artists from that country.
In 2006 she returned with her family from New York to Cleveland to be close to her parents, her siblings, and their families.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Daniel Mansoor, daughters, Jesse (fiancé Ben Fuerst) and Emma; mother Marcia Rothschild; siblings Laura (Michael) Bennett, Barry (Debbie) Rothschild, and Linda Rothschild; and seven nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her dear father Gerald (Jerry) Rothschild.
Joyce brightened her world and those in her orbit. She loved the creative and performing arts, intellectual pursuits, exercise, cooking, and friendships - all defined in her annual Chautauqua Institution summer experience that began when she was six years old.
She will be missed and admired for a very long time and the stories of her life’s adventures will sustain those who knew her – and therefore loved her.
