Loretta was born on December 1st, 1932 to Richard Edwards and Evelyn Davis in Clinton North Carolina, ultimately settling in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Hunter College in New York, she went on teach high school English to students with special needs in the Bronx, NY.
She would soon meet her husband, Frank Moss on the boardwalk at Rockaway Beach, NY, thus beginning one of the great love stories of their generation. They wed in 1956 and Loretta followed Frank to Cleveland, Ohio to start a family, going on to have four children, Rozann, Marcia, Laura and Howard. After retiring from teaching to raise her children, she became an active leader in the Cleveland Jewish Community, volunteering for many causes and ultimately served as President of the Greater Cleveland chapter of Hadassah.Ever the champion of social justice and helping those in need, Loretta served as a power of example of the true nature of selfless love, not only to her children and grandchildren, but to all those she touched in her life.
Loretta was predeceased by her mother Evelyn Davis, and her brother, Donald Davis. She is survived by her husband, Frank Moss; her children Rozann Heininger, Marcia Moss (Fred Rasmussen), Laura DeBaggis (Paul), and Howard Moss (Sandy Ternay-Moss); her grandchildren Justin (Arica), Alden, Jeffrey, Alyssa, Erica (David), Thomas, Lindsey (fiancée Brian), Allison, Samantha, Elyssa (fiancée Peter), David, and Jonathan; and her great grandchildren Isaiah, Joshua, Lincoln, Lily and Amelia.
We will always remember Mema’s legendary chicken soup, her love of music boxes, angels, beanie babies, and how she never turned away good Chinese food, albeit, as she’d remind us, “not as good as New York’s!”. Most importantly we’ll never forget Mema’s beaming smile brightening the room during each visit from her grandchildren and great grandchildren
