Marvin Greenbaum, age 94, known affectionately as "Poppy" to his family and "Marvelous" to his friends, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean Greenbaum, Son Marc (Patrice) Greenbaum, Daughters Cindie Greenbaum Alter and Kim (Jerrold) Shaw, grandchildren Elana (Joshua) Mintz, Marla (Jeremy) Bass, Douglas Shaw, Justin Shaw, Samantha (Kayleigh) Littler and Alexandra (Grant) Farnsworth, and great-grandchildren Isabel, Drew, Nathan and Lilah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Sarah Greenbaum, and lifelong friends and "brothers", Bernard Miller and Milton Silver.
Marvin was born and raised and spent his whole life in Cleveland, Ohio. He served as Staff Sergeant in the Pacific during World War II. He was a business owner, a carpenter and an electrician. He was proud of his family and of the house he built. He entertained everyone and made friends everywhere he went. He loved spending time with his family, telling jokes and enjoying a glass of Scotch.
Funeral services and interment will be held graveside at 3:30PM on Monday, September 9 at Mount Olive Cemetery, 27855 Aurora Rd, Solon, OH 44139. Family will observe shiva immediately following services at Aberdeen Community Center; 5891 Aberdeen Blvd in Highland Heights, OH 44143.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association in his memory.
