Paul Spohn passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the age of 90. Dearly beloved husband for 41 years to Diane (nee Walters). Loving father of Carter (Denise), Shawn, Scott (Marcelle) and Jacalyn, loving stepfather of Kim Hillier, Karen Krivo (George) and Kenneth Dicker, Paul was preceded in death by his first wife Dolores (mother of his 4 children), parents, George and Angela Spohn and sister Georganne Senello.
Born at home November 8, 1934 in Lakewood, Ohio, Paul was an avid Photographer since attending James A. Rhodes High School, Class of 1954, where he served as Staff Photographer of the Rhodes Review as well as membership in the Citizens Club, Senior Choir and Boys’ Glee Club. After graduating, Paul continued to work in the retail camera business and became Manager of Dodd Camera in Fairview Park, Ohio. In 1977 he purchased and ran his own camera store (Barker’s Camera Shop) in Chagrin Falls, Ohio where for twenty years he enjoyed selling and serving his loyal customers who came from the West Side and East Side for their photographic needs, and perhaps a lengthy conversation.
Paul and his wife, Diane, became quite active in the sport of showing dogs. Paul learned the techniques of being a dog handler and enjoyed showing his Borzois and won many awards from the puppy class on to Best of Breed and Group Placement. They bred 4 litters of Borzoi and 2 litters of German Shorthaired Pointers earning an American Kennel Club Breeder of Merit award. They also had Irish Setters, with one participating in the Best of Show ring at the prestigious Western Reserve Kennel Club summer show. Over the years they had 7 Borzoi Show Champions, 4 Irish Setter Show Champions and 3 German Shorthaired Pointer Show Champions, 3 Obedience titled dogs and 3 Canine Good Citizens.
Paul was very active in the Irish Setter Club of Ohio serving for many years as Vice President. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Borzoi Club and on the Board of Directors for the Western Reserve Kennel Club. In addition he had a membership in the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Ohio, the Irish Setter Club of America and the Borzoi Club of America.
Graveside service to be held Wednesday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland, Ohio, Section: Temple Israel Ner Tamid. Family will receive guests immediately following at Gattozzi & Son Funeral Home located at 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland.
