Born in Youngstown, Ohio to Marlene Arian and Dr. Walter Malkin, Shelley was known for her kindness, quick wit, laughter, and generous spirit. She graduated from The Ohio State University and went on to work feverishly as a mortgage broker at Perl Mortgage, which later became Cross Country Mortgage, a career she loved for decades and even continued working until late March of this year.
Shelley had a passion for so many things, including music, comedy and being the matriarch of the family after the passing of her dear mother in 2014. As her mother did before her, she would always remind her family of important upcoming dates (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) She found joy in her family, her countless wonderful, amazing friends and volunteering for numerous causes.
She is survived by her loving brother Jack, her nephews Nick and his wife Angela, Neil and his wife Allison, her great-niece Reese and her great-nephew Greyson. As for her amazing, wonderful friends, they are far too numerous to mention, but to say she was adored by all is an understatement. She was preceded in death by her devoted mother, Marlene Arian and her step-father Gilbert Arian.
A celebration of Shelley’s life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 11:30AM at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 27855 Aurora Road, Solon, Ohio 44139, followed by a shiva at the home of Neil and Allison Malkin, 2405 Botanica Lane, Pepper Pike, Ohio 44124 from 1:00 – 5:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Northwestern Memorial Foundation and Shelley’s Cancer walk team “Buck-Eyes On a Cure” at nmgive.donordrive.com/teams/6166 . Shelley will continue on in spirit as an Honorary Captain by her team’s side as they walk in her honor, Sunday June 7, on National Cancer Survivors Day, in Chicago.
