

Ann B. Layton, was born on January 14, 1932 in Humboldt, Tennessee to Rosetta and Rothchild Jacocks. Ann had five siblings two sisters and three brothers.
Ann worked in the cotton and strawberry fields to help support the family. At the age of 15 she went to cosmetology school and that was her primary income for the next twenty years. Ann graduated from Stigall High School. While in high school Ann played shortstop on the girls softball team. She was so good that her nickname was sling shot and she was a good swimmer. Ann attended Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State College ( Formally the college was the Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State Normal School for Negroes). Today this school is Tennessee State University. Years later Ann attended Tri-C and earned two Associates degrees, followed by earning her Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Ursaline College. Ann was a mental health social worker for over 30 years. Ann was a firm believer in education, and she encouraged many young people to further their education or learn a trade.
Ann enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading her Bible. Ann was a devote Christian. She attended a Bible College and taught Sunday School. Ann often opened up her home and welcomed the sisters of her church to what she would call a “chew and chat” fellowship. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church for over thirty years.
Ann loved to travel. Her favorite travel companion was her daughter. They traveled the world together. They visited several cities in Egypt, took several cruises throughout the Caribbean and visited different cities in the US and Canada. Ann enjoyed visiting family and friends.
Ann leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Marian Collins sons Darryl Collins (Saudia) in Georgia ,and Marcus Layton (Michelle)Walton Hills, Ohio and Harvey (Butchie) Bush (deceased). Nieces Teresa Collins (Florida), Talisha Davis (South Dakota), and Rachel Surrounded (Colorado), Nephews Henry Jacocks (Alabama) and James Jacocks (California), and great nephew Dwayne Jaac(Alabama) Grandsons Marcus Jr. (Cleveland Hts., OH) Teo Mathis (Florida), Maliki Surrounded (Colorado) and Onyx Davis(South Dakota, Granddaughters Pearl and Ruby Davis (South Dakota), Great Grandsons Teo Mathis (Florida) and Quest Collins (Florida) to name a few. Ann has a host of distant nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
A wake for Ann will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Cummings & Davis Funeral Home, 13201 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44112. A memorial service will occur Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:30 PM, 13201 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44112. An interment private will occur.
