Barbara Jean Craighead (Scipio), 92, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Barbara was born July 27, 1929 to Wilbur and Gladys Scipio in Steubenville, Ohio. She was the youngest of six children.
She graduated from Steubenville High School in 1948. Later that same year she married Benjamin Rutherford and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. While their marriage wouldn’t last forever from this union (Linda Jean Rutherford*), Cynthia A. Merritt (Rutherford) and Benita Lynn Ramsey (Rutherford) were born.
In 1957 she met her life partner and forever soul mate, Major Lewis Craighead affectionately known as “Pops.” They were married in April 1961, and from this union Brian Lewis Craighead was born.
Barbara worked as a Civilian employee for The Cleveland Division of Police, and as a licensed Real Estate Agent. Upon the birth of her son, she decided to become a stay- at- home mom/full-time and Homemaker. For many years thereafter, she spent her days caring for her children and grandchildren. In 1988, Barbara returned to the workforce and began working as a Residential Group Home Manager and later as an Office Administrative Assistant and retired in 2012.
She was well known for her talent of Interior Design. She was an avid collector of Oriental-Western Art and amassed many unique pieces of art and other collectables associated with this style. Her sense of style and flair further extended to her keen sense of fashion, as she was a true FASHIONISTA / DIVA--always dressed to impress and ready for any and all social gatherings. She was sure to turn heads when she entered a room. She can be quoted as saying: “I don’t buy the latest style or trends of the time. The clothes I buy are timeless. I can wear the things I buy anytime.”
Barbara lived life on her terms and HER WAY, and for those of us who loved her most, HER WAY was a way of life for her and the rest of us. Her quick whit, strong & loving personality, sharp mind, and sassiness will be greatly missed and will live on and be remembered in the hearts and minds of all the people she touched for many years to come.
Barbara is survived by daughters: Cynthia A. Merritt (Arthur); Benita L. Ramsey (Larry*), and son: Brian L. Craighead. Grandchildren: Jonathan C. Rutherford, Nichelle D. Rutherford, Aimee C.
