

Derrick grew up on Massie on the east side of Cleveland and graduated from Glenville High School. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served his country with honor before embarking on a successful career as an entrepreneur following his military retirement.
Derrick was a man whose presence filled every room. Blessed with a booming voice, a great sense of humor, and a personality that was truly bigger than life. He was passionate about sports, civil rights, and above all, his family. His deep faith and relationship with God guided his values and the way he lived his life.
He loved good food, luxury cars, and fashion, always presenting himself with style and flair. Whether discussing his favorite team or enjoying a meal with loved ones, Derrick brought enthusiasm and joy to everything he did.
Derrick is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry Washington; his loving daughters, Crystal Gibson (Perry Gibson) and Erika Washington; his cherished grandchildren, Amiel, Erik, and Caden; and his sisters, Diane Davis, Sharon Wagner, Darlene Davis, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Edna Washington, and his sisters, Sandra Pennyman Zellars and Marlene Washington.
Derrick's laughter, wisdom, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of faith, humor, and dedication to those he loved will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
