Edward Thomas Heathfield
September 9th, 1939-August 23rd, 2013
Many things can be said about Mr. Edward Thomas Heathfield. Known to family and friends as a very friendly, loving, helpful, family orientated, and at times stubborn man). He was a very warm hearted, gentle and kind once you got to know him.
Edward was a mechanic by day and a pool shark by night.
Working on cars and playing pool were Ed’s passions. Ed also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horse shoes, and playing poker of course.
Ed was born September 9th, 1939 at St. Joseph Hospital in Macomb, Michigan. His parents were William Thomas Heathfield (father), Elsie Wilma Travis (mother), and Emma Heathfield (step-mother). Ed also had four other siblings, William Johnson (older brother), Judith Leech, Hilda Picklo, and Kathleen Townsend (all younger sisters). Ed was raised in Macomb, Michigan and when he was only 17 years old (1957) he lost his mother Elsie Wilma Travis to lung cancer.
Ed was always involved in all sorts of activities with his family. Ed loved getting together with everyone. Seeing everyone spending time and getting along with each other brought a smile to his face. Most of all he loved playing poker with his family. You could always expect to see a deck of cards and change on the table at all of our family gatherings.
It seemed like Ed was a very busy man, but obviously not busy enough. Ed survived eight children (better known as “BRATS”): Edward Thomas Heathfield Jr. (deceased), Russel Heathfield, Linda DuBay, Thomas William Heathfield, Lisa Heathfield, Joy Heathfield, Elizabeth Heathfield (Peanut), and Christina Heathfield. Edward loved each and every one of his children in his own special way, even thou the words “I love you” rarely came out of his mouth. He showed his love without having to say it (That was Ed’s stubbornness). Ed tried to do his best the only way he knew how, I guess that’s all you could of asked for.
Ed also survived 19 grand children, Julie Heathfield, Stephanie Dombrowski, Mathew DuBay, Amanda DuBay, Erica Heathfield, Taylor Heathfield, Thomas Heathfield Jr., Clarissa Sanchez, Osiris Heathfield, Tatianna Hall, Angelic Rosa, Derrick Wilson, Alexandria Rosa, Luis Rosa Jr., Xavier Means, Avalon Means, Autumn Means, Jose Flores III, John Rodriguez, Zachery Heathfield, Dominic Heathfield and two great babies Gabriel Liwosz and Aria Hall. Even thou it was hard to keep up with all of them, he loved them all. They were all his “Little Brats”.
Throughout Edwards life he had many obsticles. A lot of them life threatening. Back in the early 1980’s Ed had a bleeding ulcer removed, early 1990’s Ed developed congestive heart failure, COPD, and cirrhosis of the liver. Late 1990’s he has a heart attack that nearly took his life. In 2012 he had stomach cancer removed. January 2013 there was another cancerous tumor discovered which made it difficult for Ed to eat. May 2013, Ed had lung surgery. God only knows how much pain and suffering this man was enduring.
Edward Thomas Heathfield passed August 23, 2013 at 6:40 am of a rare lung disease and kidney failure. He was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed. I guess Ed and God decided it was time to end all his pain and suffering.
Ed’s only wish before he passed was for his family, threw good and bad times would stick together, and if all else fails, just put together a good old poker game because that tends to work every time.
Ed’s Quote “You will not find me, but I will be with all of you”.
Edward Thomas Heathfield is at peace now, no more pain or suffering. He will be loved missed and forever in our thoughts and memories.
REST IN PEACE ED
