Jacqueline Wells, better known as Jackie, was born on March 18, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Annie Wells (both deceased). Baptized early in life at Bethlehem Temple Baptist Church, Jackie grew up attending East Cleveland City Schools, laying the foundation for a life defined by hard work and devotion to family.
Jackie was a dedicated provider for her children, known for her strong work ethic. She began her career working in construction for Local 860—the same union her father belonged to—before moving on to manage a BP station. She later retired from Indian Hills as the head housekeeper. Beyond her professional life, Jackie loved playing card games, bingo, and Keno, often enjoying gambling trips with her sister Jean and favorite niece Rita. She had a special fondness for the Christian Brothers and crab legs.
A woman of principle, if Jackie said it, she meant it. Those who knew her loved her deeply and will truly miss her vibrant spirit.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie (Louise) Wells; her brother Lloyd Wells; her sisters Gallie (Louise) Wells and Cynthia Jackson; and her grandson, Maurco Craig Lamar Toler.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Lamar Hudson, united in marriage since September 14, 1996; her children Schanta Wells, Craig Toler, and Jazmine “Jaz” Toler; and her cherished grandchildren Tonii Mayo, Antonio “Man Man” Mayo, Mecca Toler East, Makhel Toler, Nasir Thomas, Azjah Prince, Zaiden Holman, Alexander Holman, and Chloe Brielle Toler. Jackie’s great-grandchildren Tristan Mayo, Tommie Mayo, and Alani Mayo also carry forward her loving legacy.
She is survived by her siblings Rita and Ernest Johnson, Floyd Wells (Denise Wells), Valerie (Jean) Brown (Joe Brown), John Wells III (Ann), Kenny Wells, Schanta (Lynn) Safo (Renard), as well as a host of family, friends, and devoted nieces and nephews including Rita Brown, Nina Johnson, John Traylor, and cousin Dale.
Jackie’s presence, her love, and her unshakable principles will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.
