A Resolution Honoring the Life of Mrs. Kay T. 'Kennard 

Presented by First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland Rev. Kevin W. VanHook II, Ph.D., Senior Pastor 

Whereas, God in His infinite wisdom has called home Mrs. Kay Kennard, a long-time and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland;and
Whereas, Mrs. Kennard's life reflected steadiness, quiet strength, and commitment to the community of faith she called home; and 
Whereas, her presence among us contributed to the shared life, worship, and fellowship of this congregation in ways both visible and deeply personal; and 
Whereas, we affirm that "the memory of the righteous is a blessing," and we give thanks for the witness of her life and the relationships she nurtured within this church family; 
Now, therefore, be it resolved that First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland extends its heartfelt sympathy to the Kennard family, praying that the peace of Christ and the comfort of the Holy Spirit will sustain them in the days ahead; and 
Be it further resolved that we celebrate with gratitude the life of Mrs. Kay Kennard, trusting that she now rests in the eternal care of God, where there is no more suffering, but only joy, light, and everlasting peace.

RESOLUTION 
To the Entire Bereaved Kennard Family: on behalf of our members: Bro. William & Sis. Brenda Harris, Tyrell, & Family: 
RE: SIS. KAY T. KENNARD: 
Resolve that our Pastor, Timothy D. Boze and we, the congregation of The Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, bow in humble submission to this the will of God, and commend the bereaved family to Him who sees all and knows every heart; He who is able to sustain, encourage and strengthen all who will call upon His holy name. 
Our prayer is, that Sis. Kennard 's legacy and love, will live on through her children, grand-children, great-grand-children, church family, family, & friends. 
We realize that you will, forever cherish the memories of your loved one, and you may weep for a while, but find peace and comfort in 11 Corinthians 5:1 which reads: "For we know that if our earthy house of

To Claude, Wonder, Jamal, Coco and family, 
 My sincere condolences to all of you during this difficult time.
I think you all know how I felt about Kay.  I will always treasure the wonderful memories that I have of my dear friend.  Kay was a caring, kind and wise woman who loved her family, her friends and above all her God.  I’ll never forget our times we spent  on the ski slopes, our cruises, but above all, our ten day train trip out west together. She will always be remembered as more than a friend. She was my heart
sister.  I know she is resting in peace and happy  because she is with 
our Lord.

Claude, Wonder, Coco & family,
  Lindsey just called to tell me that Kay had passed. I am so so sorry to hear this. Had I know before, I would have been at her service. Kay was a beautiful woman and I so enjoyed living on Bernwood with you for all those years. I have such fond memories of all of you. Sending you our deepest condolences.  I hope the beautiful memories you share will help you as you navigate through this profound loss. . Sending hugs.

Dear Claude and Family,
It is with sadness we submit our Prayers of Comfort to all in the Divine Calling of Kay by our Lord and Savior.
We are reminded of the special Friendship we forged: as Stephen and Claude found solace in discussing business practices; Lois had served to assist Jamal in financing his medical education.  And then they all met to Complete the Circle of Love God had designed.
And now, one - our Kay- has gone on before.  We are promised we will all sit at table together, in the Divine Presence of our Lord.
May Blessings be forever in her memory. . .  and, Thank You, Jesus!

In Memory of
MRS. KAY T. KENNARD

WHEREAS: St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cleveland, Ohio was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Mrs. Kay T. Kennard on January 17, 2026, and;
WHEREAS: Mrs. Kennard was a native of West Virginia and upon relocating to the Cleveland area, served many years as an outstanding educator, encourager and mentor to young people, and:
WHEREAS: Mrs. Kennard was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, and is fondly remembered for her wisdom and hospitality, and;
WHEREAS: Mrs. Kennard lived out her Christian faith as a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, therefore;
LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT: The Senior Pastor, First Lady, Associate Ministers, Officers, Staff, and Members of St. John A.M.E. Church yield to God’s will that He has called His servant Mrs. Kay T. Kennard home after a lifetime of service; and we extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to her husband, children, and family during their hour of bereavement, and;
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: Copies of this resolution be given to the Kennard/Jeter Family, and that a copy be placed in the archives of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Our dear friend and my sister girl Kay was such a bright and warm light. Her smile would light up a room. Her voice would be so calming, reassuring and comforting. Her wisdom on child rearing and home schooling instilled confidence throughout our parenting days. Kay would always say, ‘you can’t keep down intelligence. It will always find a way!’ She was SO right. And yes, we have come over a way that with tears and laughter. Oh Kay. We(I) thank God for the gift of you. Rest in peace and enjoy your Divine Recess. Amen.

My mom was such an integral piece to not only my life but so many others. She is everyone's,  mom. I miss her so much. She was truly a blessing.  I love you, mom.

May God bless Kay and all those who celebrate her life   Kay’s glorious spirit will always be remembered and forever be a blessing to those she touched. I pray Claude and family are are comforted by God’s grace and mercy. We send our condolences and prayers to all of the family.

My deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

Kay was a rare and deeply special soul—one of those people whose kindness was instinctive, generous, and entirely focused on lifting others up.  As my son’s godmother, she (along with Claude) played a formative role during some of the most important years of his adolescence, offering guidance, steadiness, and love at moments when they mattered most.
Her words, “Don’t kill the spirit,” became a touchstone for both of us. They echoed not only in how she showed up for him, but in how I continued my own role as a parent—always mindful of protecting curiosity, empathy, and joy.  If Kay could see the man he has become today, she would have every reason to beam with pride, knowing she helped lay the foundation of his character.
I like to believe that her wisdom and kindness did not end here, but continue on in whatever comes next. Kay will be deeply missed, remembered always, and carried forward in the lives she so lovingly shaped.

Would remember your encouraging words when you weren’t even feeling well.  The little time spent with you was very inspiring .   May you rest in the arms of Jesus.
