Larry was raised in a home with strong family ties where he learned the value of hard work and sticking together. As a child, he attended the Greater Friendship Baptist Church where he was taught to love and to put his faith in God.
Larry was educated in the Cleveland Public School System. As a teenager, Larry, along with his brothers, would spend his evenings on the back of a pickup truck selling watermelons, or in the family store, Hodge & Son’s Grocery. He learned how to make money at a very young age.
Larry worked in construction/demolition as a skilled laborer. Over the years, he was employed by Hodge Construction, J & C Sewer and Miles Building Supply. He was also very handy and would occasionally work with general contractors doing almost anything.
Larry loved his music. On ANY given day, you could hear him blasting his music throughout the house. He was not a “singer” but he really loved to sing along. He enjoyed playing chess, cards and shooting dice. Bid Whist was his favorite.
Larry was never married or had children of his own but he had so much pride and love for his nieces and nephews. He took every opportunity to try to teach them something. He would always have something to give them and say “Don’t forget about your Uncle Larry”.
On January 14, 2021, Larry quietly and peacefully slipped away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie & Will Hodge Sr., his sister, Hattie V. Hodge-Wilson and his brother, Will Hodge, Jr.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers James Davis(Mary), Charles Hodge(Janice) and Darryl Hodge. His sisters, Linda Bradford, Barbara Ann Jackson, Debra Williams and Ileane Jeffries(Tommy).
His “Raymond Kids” Lady, Man, Clarence, Tess, Winn and Mikey. His special friend and card partner Nikki Lane. A host of nieces, nephews, great & great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, relative and friends from East 112th, Knowlton, Superior, East 93rd and Raymond, Southgate Towers and Terrace Road Apartments. ~ In a minute
