Burks, age 86, passed away on October 24, 2019. She
was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on June 16, 1933 one of
seven children born to James and Alice Burks.
She was a 1951 graduate of East Liverpool High School.
Norrine was a long time employee of the East Cleveland
Public Schools. There, she worked in food service at
Superior Elementary, Kirk Junior High ultimately working
in management at Shaw Public High School for the
remainder of her career. After moving to Streetsboro in
2001, Norrine began working part-time at Kent State
University. Her dedication to service earned her a Quality
Services Team Distinguished Staff Recognition Award
Nomination. Norrine retired from Kent State University
in 2012.
Norrine is survived by sons, Timothy (Brenda) of
Richmond Heights, Gregory (Audrey) of North Royalton,
Steven of Streetsboro, and daughter Alicia O’Connor
(Michael) of Oakton, Virginia. She leaves behind 13
grandchildren: Shannon, David, Sonnet, Rachael,
Michael Jr, Brandi, Nicole Norrine, John, Carol, Sara,
Jessica, Ashlee and Matthew. Six great-grandchildren:
Sidney, Isabelle, Lucius, Azjah, Francis and Alexander.
Norrine is also survived by her beloved sisters Billie Rose,
Carol Ann, brother James and brothers-in-laws, Andrew
Gilham and Walter Hicks. In addition to many nieces,
nephews and friends. Norrine was preceded in death by
her mother, father, sisters (Carlotta, Betty Mae,
Jeannette) and husband (Sylvester).
