Born in New Haven on January 21, 1929, Bernice was the daughter of the late Bruno and Agnes (Furtak) Golembiewski. She was a proud mother to Adria (Robert) Carabetta, Janice Lynch, and predeceased by Kimmy (Rocco) Vumbaco; grandmother to Janel (Brian) Bacon, Jillian (Nathaniel) Johnson, and Crystal (Dan Perciballi) Vumbaco; great-grandmother to Anders and Hagen Johnson; sister to Joseph Golembiewski of West Haven, and the late Adele Ryan, Wanda Losaw, Edward Golembiewski, Alice Baldyga, and Lottie Golembiewski; aunt to Patricia (Edward) Kelly, Linda (David) D'Andrea, Laura (Michael) Giordano, and the late Stanley and Robert Baldyga.
Known to all as Bernie, and to her family as the “Queen of Canasta,” she lived a rich, full life and her spunky, fun-loving energy was contagious. She enjoyed family time, playing cards, bingo, reading, and was a UCONN girls’ basketball and NY Yankees fan.
