Emmett J. Sullivan, Sr., of Westbrook, CT and formerly of Clinton, passed away on February 14, 2021. Emmett was born on October 27, 1939, in Yonkers, NY, to the late Michael L. Sullivan and Frances (Kingberger) Sullivan. He graduated from Iona Prep in New Rochelle, NY and was a proud alumni of Mount Saint Mary's University (Class of '61), in Maryland. Emmett was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Emmett Sullivan was a proud and loving father to his six children and nine grandchildren. He was always happy to see his grandchildren, and they looked forward to seeing him and his endless supply of M&Ms. He lived a simple life with simple means; always with his toolbox lending a helping hand, especially with the Boy Scouts. You could often find him building or repairing something. He was a quiet man, but you would not know that when you saw him cheering his kids at their sports events. He was an avid UCONN basketball fan, constant purveyor of corny dad jokes and creator of silly acronyms. Emmett was a man of habits, and you could count on finding him everyday eating breakfast at the Coffee Break and at Bill's Seafood in the afternoon. He was committed to his Catholic faith and regularly attended church at Saint Mark's in Westbrook or previously at Saint Mary's in Clinton.
Emmett is predeceased by his beloved (and favorite) daughter, Kate Kingberger. He is survived by his children Elizabeth Kupcinskas, Eileen Lippert, Emmett Sullivan, Michaela Yasin and Lawrence Sullivan; grandchildren Kerry, Eric, Catherine, Christopher, Layla, Redmond, Aidas, Eliana, and Zaid.
Emmett is survived by brothers Eugene and Joseph. His sister Mary Lu, brothers Michael and John predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 31st at 10am in St. Mark Church, Westbrook. Burial will follow in St. Mary & St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: American Parkinson Disease Association or your local Scout troop.
