

George Alvord Bernard, 81, of Westbrook, CT passed away October 26, 2015 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Lillian, son William and daughters Nancy and Barbara and will be missed by his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was loved by many and a well-respected, good man. The longest running Director of the American Boarding Kennel Association as George owned Silver Trails Boarding Kennel in Westbrook, CT. A true man of all trades George once owned The Galley Restaurant in Clinton, CT and also was a ten year veteran officer of the Clinton Police Dept.
George never far from the water was an Olympic Qualifier in 1952 for the U.S. Swimming and Diving Team. George then joined the Ancient Mariners Fife and Drum of Guilford as he was an active member for over 30 years. In addition, George served his country in the Korean War where he was a member of The Underwater Demolitions Team. He would go on to be a member of the American Legion, the Masons, Elks Club and a regular at the VFW. George spent his free time practicing magic. Better known as Dr White, George practiced magic for over 40 years locally in Florida where he was a member of the Florida Assoc. Magical Entertainers and the New London Assoc. of Magic. One of George’s passions was spending many a night performing magic at shows with friends and family.
Calling hours will be Sun 11/1 from 4-7 pm at Swan FH, 80 E. Main St, Clinton, CT. A Memorial Service will be Mon 11/2 at 9 am at Swan FH.
