Joel Argyle Douglas, 88, of North Branford, CT passed away on November 5, 2021, succumbing to a combination of complex medical conditions. He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 68 years, Alma (Lucchesi) and their four sons and their spouses: Joel & Heidi Douglas; Craig & Marilyn Douglas; Bryan & Debbie Douglas and Steven & Dorothy Douglas, as well as five grandchildren: Stephanie Douglas McGarry (Matt); Conor Douglas; Steven Douglas; Alison Douglas and Skyler Douglas.
Joel was born in Putnam, CT and graduated from Marianapolis Academy. He married Alma in 1953 and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ and Holloman AFB, NM. After his military service, he was employed by Southern New England Telephone Company where he worked his way up from linemen to second line manager responsible for conversion from analog systems to electronic switching systems. He retired from the phone company in 1988 after thirty years of service.
Joel and Alma were residents of Clinton, CT for forty years. They moved to Bonita Springs, FL in 2003. They enjoyed a long retirement together. Their favorite trip was a very fun family cruise taken over the Christmas holidays in 2012. Joel was outgoing and social. He enjoyed playing golf, bocce, and cards, telling stories and a good scotch. He was a smooth dancer and enjoyed listening to “easy listening” music and summers at Webser Lake, MA. His family meant everything to him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 11am at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton. A Calling Hour will be held for one hour prior to the service from 10-11am at the funeral home.
