Jud was born in Waterbury CT on December 7th, 1933 and lived with his father, Nelson H. Bellmay Jr, his mother Catherine Bellmay (nee Pagle) and his two sisters.
He was the first in his family to graduate college, attending Hillyer College (now the University of Hartford) graduating in 1957 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was initially hired by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, eventually specializing in precision manufacturing techniques of jet engines. He subsequently worked in parts procurement at Whitney Chain, at Cincinnati Milacron in procurement of nuclear reactor components, and then started his career as a sales engineer in the jet aviation industry initially working for Valenite Corp. He concluded his career with an 11 year stint with Ingersoll Cutting Tools. Upon his retirement, his customers recognized him for his integrity and humor.
He was predeceased by his wife Louise Bellmay. He is survived by his three sons Dean J. Bellmay of Collinsville CT, Matthew J. Bellmay of Vermont and Nathan F. Bellmay of Hillsdale NJ and two stepsons Donald Marren of Bloomfield, CT and Robert Marren, of Milford CT. Jud is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Warner of Wolcott CT, Yvonne Grady of Waterbury CT and his nephews and nieces.
He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Victoria A. Bellmay of Jersey City NJ, Nicole V. Bellmay of Hillsdale NJ and Zachary Marren of Bloomfield, CT and his daughters-in-law Laura R. Bellmay of Vermont, and Caryl L. Bellmay of Hillsdale NJ.
Always equipped with a joke or a humorous story, Jud was well known for his humor. He even named his cabin cruiser “Our Sons’ Inheritance”. You’d be hard pressed to meet him and not have a laugh.
He enjoyed his family and friends, fishing, boating and target shooting. He also gave back to his community having served on the Board of Regents at the University of Hartford, and more recently, on the Board of his community association.
A truly decent, good hearted man, whose handshake was as good as a contract. He will be missed.
The Bellmay family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Yale New Haven Hospital who provided compassionate care for Jud during his last days.
Calling hours will be held at our Swan funeral home in Clinton on May 2, 2020 from 10am to 12pm.
