Shirley Cashman

Shirley Marie Mansfield Cashman, 82 yrs old, formerly of 437 Old Clinton Rd., Westbrook, CT, passed away peacefully at Apple Health Care in Cromwell, after a long and valiant fight with lung and heart disease.

Born the daughter of Joseph Mansfield and Mary Lindner Mansfield; was born in New Haven and raised in Old Saybrook, graduating for Saybrook High School. She was married to now deceased Clifford H. Cashman, in which she resided in Westbrook, most of her adult life, raising a family of nine children.

Shirley was an avid gardener, which allowed her to can vegetables to provide for her family. She was a fabulous cook, enjoyed bird watching, sewing, and knitting. Shirley had a great sense of humor, positive outlook, and a real zest for life!

She is survived by her sons Danny Cashman of Clinton, John Cashman of Middletown, Jeffery Cashman and wife Patty of Clinton, Thomas Cashman and wife Ginger of Ivoryton, Daughters Linda Cashman and Colleen Hicks of Clinton, and Diane Flanigan and husband Larry of Cromwell. Shirley had twelve grandchildren.

She is survived by her sisters Gerry Perzanowski of Old Saybrook, Eleanor Schmeidel of Hopkins, Minnesota, Dorothy Lewis of Summerton, SC, brothers Joseph Mansfield of Tampa, FL, and James Mansfield of Avon, NY.

She was pre-deceased by her sons Ronald and Timothy Cashman, and brothers Richard, Thomas, and Walter Mansfield.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the care provided by Apple Health Care of Cromwell and Middlesex Hospice Service for the past couple weeks of her life.
