

Virginia M. Gardner, born May 14, 1914, passed away March 15, 2015. A resident of East Haddam, CT, she had previously lived in Clinton, CT. Ginny was born and raised in Middlefield, CT. She is a graduate of Middletown High School and attended business college. She married Elliott Gardner in 1941, and helped him with his wholesale florist business until they moved to Clinton in 1954. He predeceased her in 1985. They had two daughters, Lucille Gardner of East Haddam, and Margery (John) Feitig of Lebanon, PA. Ginny is survived by one sister, Catherine Moeller, of Durham, CT. Two other sisters, Harriet Morgan and Margaret Hartt, predeceased her. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. At age 14, Ginny joined the Grange and remained a member until her death. As an active member, she held many local and state offices. She treasured the friendships she made as a Granger. At home Ginny liked to garden, bird watch, and solve word puzzles and cryptograms. And the antics of the family dogs, Gracie and Shelby, provided her with constant entertainment. The family thanks the staff of Weiss Hospice at Middlesex Hospital for their excellent care of Ginny. There will be a private internment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, Box 808, Hudson MA 01749, First Church of Christ, Congregational, 499 Town Street, East Haddam, CT 06423, or charity of the donor’s choice.
