Beatrice Selvaggio, age 98, of St. Clair Shores, MI passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2020, while surrounded by family. Beatrice was born in Detroit, MI on August 25, 1921. Her parents, Alessandro and Serafina Viviano, were Sicilian immigrants, she was the third of five children. Born as a first generation American Citizen, Beatrice pursued her dreams. Education and faith were always in the forefront of her aspirations.
In 1943, during World War II, Beatrice, determined to serve her country, enlisted in the Woman’s Army Corps (WAC). In 1946, Beatrice married the love of her life, Joseph P. Selvaggio, and through their devotion to faith and family, they raised five children. Joseph and Beatrice shared in loving marriage for 66 years. In 2013, Joseph passed at the age of 94. Always inspiring, kind, considerate and humble, Beatrice Selvaggio will always be admired and missed by her loving family, close friends and acquaintances.
Beatrice is survived by her loving family: Anthony (Theresa) Selvaggio, Alex Selvaggio (Antje Zuccaro), Johanna (Vince) Pizzo, Sara (Thomas) Valenti and Joseph Selvaggio Jr. (Jane Cihon). Fourteen grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also, her sister, Josephine Lamerato. The legacy she leaves and devoted inspiration will continue in all who knew and loved her.
One of Beatrice’s wishes was to have donations sent to her beloved Catholic televsiosn station: EWTN, Eternal World Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds, Irondale, AL 35210.
Visitation Friday, February 21, 2020 from 2pm until 9pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Road, Clinton Township. In state Saturday 11:30am until time of funeral mass at 12pm at St. Paul on the Lake, 157 Lake Shore Rd, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Please share a memory with the family on Beatrice’s guestbook.
