Bernice Muehl, age 102, beloved wife of the late Marvin E. Muehl, passed away in Romeo, Michigan on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Bernice was born on February 25, 1923, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Anton and Helena (Andersen) Mickelson. She married Marine Pvt. Marvin E. Muehl on March 25, 1944 at First Presbyterian Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin. They moved to Marvin’s home state of Michigan, where they raised their 5 children in the city of East Detroit (Eastpointe). Bernice and Marvin missed celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary in 2019 due to Marvin’s passing.
Bernice graduated from Green Bay East High School. She worked as a telephone operator in Racine, Wisconsin before her marriage to Marvin. Bernice excelled at counted cross-stitch and her work was second to none, sometimes creating her own designs and lettering. Bernice and Marvin enjoyed spending time at their place in Crivitz, WI, where many family members would gather with them.
Bernice is survived by their children, Judy (Jim) Meshefski, Cindy (John) Schumacher, Harvey (Luanne), Marcia (Larry) Rogers, and Nancy (Fred) Nicol; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother Clarence Mickelson; sister-in-law Delores DeStrooper; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin; sisters: Alice Mickelson, Camilla (Dewey) Stange, and Marcella (Leonard) Bubolz; and brother Raymond (Lorraine) Mickelson.
A funeral service for Bernice will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 23000 Gratiot Ave., Eastpointe, MI 48021, with visitation at 10am until the time of the funeral service. Bernice will be laid to rest following the services at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
