Edwin Francis Kowalski, age 75, of Eastpointe, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Ed was in remission after a 5 year battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma, which occurred due to his exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War and led to many secondary health battles. He was born February 7, 1948 to the late Edward & Frances Kowalski.
Ed was born and raised in Michigan. He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Ed served his country in the United States Army's 199th Infantry during the Vietnam War and also served in the Army Reserves. He was a Reserve Master Sergeant MSG/ E8 and a Senior Drill Instructor. During his time in the service Ed taught himself how to and loved to play the guitar and continued to do so with his brothers when he came home. Ed retired from Ford Motor Company after 42 years of dedicated work. He held several positions starting on the Assembly line to a Committee Man and finally as a Job Security Rep. Ed could literally fix anything, and often did this over buying something new. With his self-taught skills Ed was dedicated to teach and pass them onto others with great patience. He took great pride in restoring his 1957 "Gasser". He enjoyed karaoke, country music, boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, horseshoes and bags. To Ed family was everything- he loved family gatherings, camping and traveling with them. A few family favorite travel destinations were Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.
In 1977 Ed married the love of his life, Diane, in Eastpointe, and she survives. Other survivors include their 5 children; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings; and 2 God children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 of his siblings.
A memorial visitation will be Friday, December 29th from 2:00 pm until 9:00pm with a Memorial Service at 7:00pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
"When I am gone"
When I am gone, Release me. Let me go.
I have so many things to see and do. You
mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears. Be
happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love. You can only guess
how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown.
But now it’s time I travel on alone.
So grieve a while for me if grieve you must..
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part.
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away. For life goes on.
So if you need me, call, and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near,
and if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear
all of my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way
alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and say
“Welcome Home”
