He was born on February 22, 1932 in Hamtramck, Michigan to Walter and Helen Ward.
Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. While stationed in Curlew, Washington, he led a project to build a church so that servicemen would have a place of worship—an effort that reflected both his faith and his commitment to others.
Known by his family as a true “Mr. Fix-It,” Herb had a remarkable talent for repairing anything that was broken. He trained in the tool and die trade, working for many years at Bratton Tool and Die before retiring from General Dynamics. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) and served for many years as a Union Steward, advocating for and assisting fellow workers.
Herb enjoyed golfing and bowling, was a devoted Detroit Red Wings fan, and was an accomplished chess player. He also generously gave his time as a Little League baseball coach, making a lasting impact on young players.
Above all, Herb will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love that will be cherished for generations.
Herbert was the beloved husband of Jeanette Ward, with whom he shared 73 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving family and a life rooted in dedication, service, and hard work. He is also survived by his children Debra Frey (John), Randy Ward (Deborah), Stacey Isrow (Alan), and Kelly Isrow; his cherished grandchildren Jessica Jennings (Paul), Alyssa Ward, Alana Hurst (Charles), Alexandra Mosley, Zachary Isrow (Karolina), Samantha Isrow, and Katrina Isrow; and his treasured great-grandchildren Theodore Jennings, Kenna Hurst, Henley Hurst, Ellis Mosley, Merrick Isrow, and Arcadius Isrow. He is also survived by his brother Patrick Ward, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
