Joann Monfils went home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the age of 83. She was born to Claire and Bernard Begin on August 14, 1941. She grew up in Detroit before moving and spending the rest of her life in the suburbs of Detroit.
Joann was a shining light for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on earth was marked by her love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed volunteering her time there. Much of her time was spent in prayer, reading from her bible and other books, and listening to podcasts to help her grow deeper in her faith.
Throughout her life, Joann has had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed ice skating for years at her local ice arena, loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, and had a love for the birds that visited her bird feeders. Her hands provided her with the gift of floral arranging and painting. Her greatest passion was sewing and quilt making. Each of her great grandchildren were gifted with a quilt made with love from their Gigi.
Joann is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Harold Monfils, her four children: Christine (Robert) Pacer, Michele Atherton, Kathleen (Greg) Polk, and David Monfils; and her sister, Claire (Doug) Kaherl. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Her family cannot express the grief they feel with her passing but know that she will live forever in their hearts and memories. Joann is known for her great sense of humor, her love of playing word games with family, the memories made on family camping trips, and her love of finding the perfect book for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as gifts. They will all cherish these memories, cry tears that she is gone, but smile more because she has lived and delight in all that she has left for them to remember her by.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following foundations that were important to her: John Hopkins Myositis Center Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
