Lawrence has now joined his beloved wife, Frances Juanita, with whom he shared a love story for the ages. Nita passed just 6 months before Lawrence and their swift reconvergence in heaven is a testament to how deeply Larry loved his wife.
Larry was raised as a catholic and he spent his life devout in his faith. He pursued a position as a eucharistic minister and revered his time at St Ronalds Church.
Lawrence was a tough, courageous, spirited protector. He was a man with convictions and a strong sense of leadership. After Larry served with the US Army and National Guard, he put his skills to good use and ended up meeting his eventual wife at Detroit Plastic Molding. Lawrence and Nita began their life together when they married on July 28th, 1956. They had four lovely daughters who they raised in a home filled with love, rules, traditions, and most importantly, adventures.
Larry secured employment with Ford Motor Company in 1963. He worked his way up the chain where he eventually retired after 31 years as a Plant Supervisor. His tenure there was full of successes and challenges, even taking him to places like Milan, Italy. His work at Ford provided his family with a secure and full life, and he took pride in his career.
As a family, they traveled together to Ormond Beach, Florida every year where they made lifelong memories. Larry lived to take his girls on these trips. He would offshore fish and give his catch to the families by their resort. The dog track and flea market were staples for every visit.
Another crown jewel of his life was the cottage he and Nita acquired in Caseville, MI in 1974. This little cabin on the lake became the greatest joy of every member of the family. The love of this place has reached 4 generations. Larry spent his time here updating their cottage, fishing and taking the boat out on the lake with his girls.
Larry earned himself the nickname of “Godfather” on his yearly boys’ trips with his favorite men. He adored them, and they adored him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Nita, his parents Retha and Joseph, siblings Doug and Bob, his granddaughter Alexandra, great granddaughter Louella, and many other cherished family members.
He is survived by his loving children Cindy (John) Merandi, Karen (David) Golemba, Michelle Rubino, and Stacey (Tom) Peak; cherished grandchildren Rachel (Scott), Vanessa (August), Johnny, Valerie (Chadd), Whitney (Joe), Carter, Gracie, Emiley, Sara, Mason; and seventeen beloved great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
A loving letter from his grandchildren:
Papa,
We will remember you as the life of the party and the man who lived to jump scare all of us by shouting and grabbing our knees. Teaching us resilience and the magic of humor delivered at just the right time, right from the start.
If our childhood had a soundtrack, your stunning voice would be the centerpiece. We loved bragging to people about how our papa looked just like Elvis and sang even better than him.
Watching you at church made us proud in ways that made us want to be better, to explore what faith meant to us, and what it meant to serve.
We will miss the joy in your voice any time we walked through your door. You made us feel like our presence was the best part of your day. That feeling of being treasured is a gift we will lovingly hold now that we’ve lost both you and Grandma. We really were so blessed to have been loved by two of the greatest humans. Your love influenced so much of who we are, and what we want from life.
The best parts of you will live on in us.
Heaven feels less scary now knowing you and grandma are there waiting for us one day.
Rest in eternal peace Papa, who some of our own kids lovingly called Big. Life won’t be the same without you and we will miss you desperately.
