A huge fan of baseball, this sport was a significant part of his life. He was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and continued to play baseball until he was 84 years old. His love for the game extended beyond playing, as he coached many teams, conducted ratings, selected players, and even served as an umpire.
In addition to his love for baseball, Joe was an avid golfer, golfing until he was 90. He also enjoyed bowling, billiards, and card games, with a particular fondness for the game of spades. When he retired, he absolutely cherished going to Florida and spending the winters as a snowbird with his wife Lillian.
A dedicated Catholic, Joe's faith was a cornerstone of his life. In 1952, Joe also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, a testament to his dedication and service.
As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joe’s family was the center of his world. His lovable and kind nature endeared him to all who knew him.
One of his lasting legacies is the putt-putt tournament he created at Cedarbrook of Rochester Senior Living, which is now fondly named the "Joe Stabile Putt-Putt Tournament" in his honor.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Lillian Stabile; children: Dianne (Martin) Colby, Nancy (Richard) Wiedbusch, John (Caroline) Stabile, and Lisa (Matt) Tremmel; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: Giuseppe and Cecelia Stabile; and sisters: Angeline and Catherine.
