Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan in March of 1935 to Michael and Helen Ulicny. As a young man he attended Ford Trade School to train as a draftsman. His career as a draftsman was more than a job—it was a lifelong passion. After attending trade school, he dedicated himself to his craft, spending most of his career with Koltanbar Engineering. His love for his work was so strong that he retired three times, only to return each time, unable to stay away from what he loved. As a traditionalist to his trade, Mike always preferred the precision of design by pencil and paper over modern technology.
Outside of work, Mike found enjoyment in life’s simple pleasures. He found his greatest joy was his family, more specifically in being “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandson, cherishing every moment spent with them. A true minimalist at heart, he never needed much to be content. Mike loved classic Westerns, especially John Wayne films, and over the years, he enjoyed athletic activities like playing golf, tennis, and bowling. Through and through, Mike was also a loyal and devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers. Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His love, dedication, and quiet wisdom will remain in the hearts of those he touched.
Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine; his children, Pamela Pirrone (John), Rodney (Hope), and Jennifer Lehr (Ray); his grandchildren, Zachary Pirrone, Kirsten Lehr, Claire Allen (Nick), Samantha Ulicny, Jack Lehr, and Dominic Pirrone; his great-grandson Jett Allen; and siblings Denis Ulicny and Marion Siwicki. He was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Lentine.
Services for Mike will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025. A brief visitation will begin at 11 AM and go until time of a funeral service at 1 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, Michigan.
