

Sam J. Lombardo age 92 of Sterling Heights passed away on January 9, 2013. Sam retired from General Motors; he was part of the design staff. Sam had a 39- year career in fast pitch softball. He played in eight national championships with Briggs. Sam also played in three national championships while playing for the Zollner Pistons, Ft. Wayne Indiana; he was their top hitter for six years. Sam was named first-team All-American in 1961 and 1964. In October, 1981, Sam was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the National Hall of Fame. Loving husband of the late Mary. Dear father of Fran (George) Parker and Frank (Sharon) Lombardo. Dearest grandfather of Paul (Lauren) Lombardo, Brian Lombardo, and Eric Lombardo. Sam is also survived by his siblings Margaret (Dick) McRae, Lena (Joe) Carlo and sister in law Patricia Lombardo. Sam was predeceased by his brother Roy. Visitation will be Friday January 11, 2013 from 2-9pm at Resurrection Funeral Home 40800 Hayes Rd. Clinton Twp. MI 48038. Additional visitation will be Saturday January 12, 2013 from 10am until the time of service at 11am.
