Farideh, I was saddened to learn that Craig has passed.  He and I started as "on opposite sides" in our professional lives, but I came to respect him deeply as a brilliant and fair man.  Over the years, we developed a warm friendship that continued into our retirements.  I will always treasure our long talks over coffee about family, music, travel and life itself, and will keep happy memories of his kindness and wit.

Craig was an important part of the FTB Legal family and a dear friend. He always took care to send me pictures of his staff’s weddings and new babies so I could share in the happy memories. He gave me little gifts that would remind me of things he knew were important to me.  He was so thoughtful that way. I loved Craig and will miss him very much. His bravery and courage continue to inspire me.

We were known as the Koppert family by Craig, who lived across the street from us since he moved to Gold River. Our children and family always cherished the moments spent with Craig. He had a special way of making every encounter memorable, especially when he returned from his trips with gifts for our kids. Sometimes, he would hand them $2 bills, weaving in fascinating history lessons that left them in awe. Craig was more than a neighbor; he was a beacon of kindness and joy in our lives. His incredible spirit touched us deeply, and I am confident he is now living pain-free in heaven. We hold onto the hope of reuniting with him in eternity, where his warmth and generosity will once again light up our hearts.

If he was anything like his older brother Mike then he was a real sweetheart. I went through school with Mike and always admired his kindness, athletsim, scholarship and friendship. I'm sure his brother must have been just like him even though I never knew him.

I worked with Craig Swieso ever since I started in his division of the Franchise Tax Board in late 2016. He was one of the nicest people I worked with and, as a library technician/PC coordinator, I was pleased to be of service to him. He was very understanding, patient and friendly. 

I'm saddened by his passing away; I pray that he rests peacefully. His family has my deepest condolences.

Dear Ferideh,

As you know, Craig was very proud of his legal career at FTB, USC law degree and CPA, and expressed such with unabashed enthusiasm and thankfulness! He was intellectually quicker and more curious than most, but less circumspect than some. He was really good at telling quips and knew it! He had many struggles but did not use them as a crutch. He was quick to apologize and, more importantly, I believe that he tried to make amends with those he may have hurt.  In that, he was better than most. Typical of Craig, he started texting his friends as soon as he was in hospice to say goodbye. I am grateful to know that he passed away in peace and surrounded by those he most loved, at home where he was most happy.
