My good friend Karen -- Few days pass by without a thought of you and the joy you found in everyday life.  Hugs .....

Still miss you, my dear friend.  Your zest for life was just amazing!!

Some of my favorite memories of Karen:

A career of storytelling. She told me that she was on the 2nd generation of storytelling kids at the library, i.e. the kids who listened to her story hours now brought their kids.

Her Santa Claus collection.

Bringing a box of See’s candies to the Cookie Exchange--this was classic Karen--something so delicious, we all loved it, plus practical and much easier to do than the baking the rest of us did.

Her telling about a young library patron who wanted to know who Julian Lennon's father was. (Hint it starts with a J.)

Being one of the most resilient people I've ever met. Karen just accepted life and moved on. When she couldn't see birds, she told me she recognized them by their shapes.

  I had the privilege of working for and with Karen at the Gillis and Fig Garden Branch Libraries.  She was a gentle, kind woman who related to staff and patrons alike with compassion and empathy.   She treated all with the utmost respect, and was a gifted listener.
  Karen was especially fond of children, and would put on a great story time.  I will always remember her dressed up in her great pumpkin costume as she treated a rapt group of kids to some seasonal stories.  And Karen always ended her story times with a group hug.  She knew a lot of the kids in our neighborhood needed one.
  I talked with her occasionally after her retirement, and so enjoyed these visits.  Karen really knew the history of the Fresno County Library, and she was a natural born storyteller.  She loved to laugh, and would always make me laugh.
  I was very fortunate to work with Karen, and will always treasure and love my memories of her.  
  Peace Be With You, Karen, as you look down on us from that Great Library In The Sky.
                                                                        

Karen’s passion for librarianship was inspiring. She cared deeply for her work and the people she served, especially children.  
I have fond memories of the delicious chocolates she brought to annual library cookie exchanges, along with the hilarious white elephant gifts.
 I will always remember Karen’s kind spirit and laughter.  May she Rest In Peace.

Karen was a mentor to  me in our shared field of children's librarianship.  I could always turn to her for answers to tricky questions, usually about vague memories of a book read in childhood which the patron could not quite remember. We planned programs together and laughed a lot.  She will be missed.

Karen was a good friend, and mentor.  Time spent with Karen was upbeat and fun. And silly, many times.  I loved her stories and her support when I went through some tough times.  She loved her family deeply.  Their loss must be profound.
