It is with sadness and broken hearts that we announce that Rebecca Aurora Olivas, born April 13, 1933, passed away on September 3, 2025, at the remarkable age of 92, in Clovis California. Rebecca’s hand was held by her devoted and loving husband John and she was surrounded by her children at the time of her peaceful passing.
Rebecca was born in Fresno, California and was raised by her parents, Teofilo and Tillie Rodriguez, in a loving home with her two younger siblings, Gilbert and Teri. She grew up in a family that was deeply devoted to one another, filled with abundant love and joy.
Throughout her life, Rebecca enjoyed being a seamstress and has fond memories of her employment with Hancock Fabrics. In addition, she has spent over 40 years designing and crafting beautiful pieces for her family and friends, leaving lasting memories and impact on their lives.
Rebecca, a single mother of two sons, met John, a single father with three children of his own, while working at Granny Goose in Fresno. John took one look at her and knew she was the one for him. There was no doubt in his mind. They dated for several years and blended their family in 1966 when they married. Following their marriage, they welcomed another child into their family, Debra. Together, they created a close-knit and loving family of eight, their own little Brady Bunch family, station wagon included.
Rebecca loved to travel, she and John would take the bunch to Oregon every summer for a few weeks to camp. One time, she prepared the entire family for a two-week trip, and halfway to Oregon, she suddenly remembered to pack her own clothes. She was 6 months pregnant with her youngest and had to wear John’s shirts. She had a passion for sewing. To ensure she wouldn't lose anyone at Disneyland, she would create matching shirts for the entire family to wear. She was an exceptional seamstress, who skillfully crafted the wedding dresses for Cindy and Debbie with great care and affection. She also enjoyed crocheting blankets and scarves for her family. Her favorite activity over the past few years has been hosting family nights playing Yahtzee. She proudly earned the title of Yahtzee Queen. And naturally, she enjoyed visiting the casino, where she would zip around so swiftly that she often forgot her walker. Once she arrived, it was a challenge to keep up with her energetic pace. She had an exuberant enthusiasm for slot machines, where she was, let's say, quite the slot machine aficionado.
Rebecca is survived by her devoted husband, John Olivas, who resides in Clovis, California. Her memory will be cherished fondly by her children: Richard Mancillas and wife Debra from Clovis, California; Dwayne Olivas and wife Rebecca from Oklahoma; Cindy Olivas Sandage of Clovis, California; Clifford Mancillas of Clovis, California; and Debra Olivas-Lopez and husband Rey of Clovis, California.
It is important to note that she was predeceased by her son, Michael Olivas of Bakersfield, California who passed in 2021.
She also leaves behind her brother, Gilbert Rodriguez and wife Cindy, of Fresno, California, and her sister, Teri Pole and husband Bob, of Madera, California.
Rebecca's legacy lives on through her 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and countless family and friends who will always cherish her memory in their hearts.
A Rosary Service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm at Boice Funeral Home, located at 308 Pollasky Avenue, Clovis, California, 93612.
A Prayer Service will follow on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:15 am, at the same location.
We will truly miss her radiant smile and infectious laughter, particularly those moments when she laughed at something John had said. She will be deeply missed and will remain in our hearts always.
