Shirley Ann Sailor (Cowen), a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and adored great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on July 7, 2023. Shirley's life was filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be cherished for generations to come.
Born on March 4, 1935 to her late parents Frank and Pauline Cowen, Shirley grew up in Tonkawa, Oklahoma alongside her beloved siblings, George Cowen and Patricia Penton. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a kind and nurturing spirit that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Many people commented about her warm and genuine smile.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Sailor, to whom she was married for an incredible 62 years. Their enduring love and unwavering commitment were a source of inspiration to all who knew them.
As a devoted mother, Shirley is survived by her two children, Sally Gallagher (husband John) and Scott Sailor (wife Stacey), both residing in Fresno, California. She instilled in them the values of love, empathy, and perseverance, which they carry with them as a testament to her unwavering guidance and affection.
As a grandmother, Shirley was a beacon of love and support to her grandchildren, Marshall Gallagher (wife Courtney), Natalie Parker (husband Randy), Andrew Gallagher (wife Mackenzie), Jessica Sailor, Madison Pletz (husband Caleb), and Olivia Sailor. Her boundless affection and wise counsel created a strong bond between her and her grandchildren, who will forever treasure the memories shared with their loving “Grandma”.
Shirley also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of immense joy during her later years. Watching them grow and blossom filled her heart with pride, knowing that her love would forever be etched in the depths of their hearts. Her cherished great-grandchildren will carry her memory forward, their lives touched by the warmth and affection she showered upon them.
A woman of deep faith, Shirley found solace and comfort in her connection with the New Covenant Community Church in Fresno, California. It was there that she formed lifelong friendships and shared her unwavering belief in the power of love and compassion.
A Celebration of Life service in honor of Shirley will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at New Covenant Community Church, located at 1744 East Nees Avenue, Fresno, California 93710. The service will be a testament to the love and joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends.
The honorary pallbearers, Marshall Gallagher, Andrew Gallagher, Natalie Parker, Jessica Sailor, Madison Pletz, and Olivia Sailor, will carry her spirit forward as they celebrate her life and honor her memory.
