Silverio “Sil” De La Peña, 89, of Clovis, California, entered enteral rest on November 22, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1936, in Realitos, Texas. Sil was married for nearly 70 years to his beloved wife, Esperanza “Hope” De La Peña. The two met in November 1954 and were married on December 31, 1955. After marrying, Sil and Hope moved to Clovis, where they began their life and family together.
Sil is survived by his wife, Hope, and their six children:
Elida Ramos (Leonard),
Elva Hutchenson (Michael),
Vira Matthews (Frank),
Silverio De La Peña Jr. (Lisa),
Samuel De La Peña (Debra),
and Elaina Sampson (Matthew).
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy throughout his life.
Sil first worked in migrant labor before returning to school to earn his high school diploma. In 1980, he began his career with the Fresno Housing Authority, where he remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in February 1999.
Sil dedicated his life to his Christian faith after accepting the Lord in September 1986 at the Luis Palau Central California Crusade held at Selland Arena in Fresno. Following this commitment, he became an active and devoted member of People’s Church, where he served faithfully for many years. His ministry work included playing bass guitar for his Sunday School, helping transport youth luggage and supplies on mission trips to Mexico, construction projects—including work in Yugoslavia, serving as a friendly door greeter for Sunday morning services, and sharing the Gospel through Evangelism Explosion. One of Sil’s greatest joys was serving as an interpreter for youth mission teams traveling into Mexico. He and his wife, Hope, worked side by side, helping young people communicate and share God’s word.
Sil enjoyed spending time with his family, playing his bass guitar, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco Giants, participating in construction projects, and camping. He was known for his hard work, generosity, and sincere dedication to his faith and family.
Sil will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Private services will be held by the family to honor Sil’s life and legacy.
