It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Darryl Patrick Keith (DK), age 58, passed away Friday July 26th peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas.
Darryl was born November 16, 1965 in Lake Jackson Texas to Irvin Henry and Paula Janette Gasch Keith. DK was a man with a larger-than-life personality. His loud and boisterous laugh could fill a room and his easy-going nature made him a joy to be around. He had a passion for the simple things in life and found joy in the small moments that others often overlooked. DK experienced a multitude of adventures in a single lifetime and had the stories to share.
DK was also dedicated to his recovery and was a beloved member and on the board of the Bellaire Club AA in Houston, Texas. He found solace and support in the community of fellow recovering brothers and sisters and was a source of strength and inspiration to many. The outpouring of love and inspiring stories from his group was very touching to his family.
One of Darryl’s greatest passions was cooking, a gifted culinary chef. He loved to spend his time in the kitchen, creating meals for his family and friends to enjoy, and he made a delicious pot of gumbo. His kitchen creations were always a hit and he took great pride in sharing his love of food with those around him. He picked up his love of cooking from his mother, especially her gumbo. You would not go home hungry if you attended one of DK’s festivities.
Darryl enjoyed many hobbies and was gifted with many talents. Need anything built, no problem, to a corn-hole game, smoker, flooring, tile, fence, you name it, DK could build it. DK enjoyed horticulture and had many exotic plants. He could take a pinch of a plant and start a thriving plant, including his beautiful bonsai plants. An avid animal lover, he fed and gave a homeless kitty a place to call home. DK loved Snoopy, the life-like dog to Charlie Brown as DK could relate to Snoopy’s character and traits. DK could sing just about any country-western song and loved being a proud parrot-head singing Jimmy Buffet songs. Surfing and just being by the ocean warmed his sprit, gave him balance and where he felt most at home, at the beach or on board a boat. And, would look stylish wearing his hand-made tie-dye shirts he loved to create. DK loved anything tie-dye. Darryl was your perfect party planner and hosted many Halloween parties where his favorite costumes were a Pirate and Uncle Fester.
Darryl will be remembered for his infectious smile, his warm heart, helping servant attitude, many stories, jokes and his unwavering love for his family and friends.
Darryl was preceded in death by his father Irvin Henry Keith, his mother Paula Janette Gasch Keith Clevenger and brother William Glenn “Bill” Keith. He is survived by his sister Tempe Keith Gaugler (Mike), sister-in-law Karen Keith, his nieces and nephews Jamison Keith, Logan Williams, Ashlee Keith, Madison Williams, Jacob Keith, his eight great nieces and nephews, and his cousin Karole Ann Keith, who DK held a very special place in his heart for Karole. Darryl also leaves behind many friends that were family to him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Darryl’s GoFundMe page listed below.
