Edgar Calvin Seay, “Ed” or “Eddie” to family and friends, took that final, big beautiful step towards his eternal life promised by our Creator through our Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday night, July 11, 2011 at the age of 68. He succumbed to a relatively brief but vicious battle with pancreatic cancer; a fight he never had a chance of winning, so he chose to face it with courage, dignity and with the overwhelming love of his family and friends by his side. To our everlasting thanks, and in honor of our Heavenly Father, two disparate people in his life contacted Ed on one particular day in mid-May to witness and give testimony for Jesus Christ’s incredible offer of eternal salvation for all mankind through God’s grace. Their conversations with Eddie eased him into reopening his heart and welcoming back the Holy Spirit while asking forgiveness for his transgressions, thereby allowing him to freely choose to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. The Lord had blessed Eddie indeed. The first to contact him that fateful Thursday morning was his nephew, Ethan Seay, who was finishing his first year at a bible college in Florida before heading to Africa to start his ministry as a missionary. The other was Dr. Eric Hall, Ed’s pain management program specialist, who spent an initial two hours with Eddie to both treat him, but more important to minister to him. It was during this two hour conversation that Eddie felt the power of the Holy Spirit come over him and he turned his life over to Christ and our Creator. The Lord had blessed Eddie indeed. As a result of Eddie’s spiritual renewal of faith, he contacted the leadership of the church from which he had chosen to be estranged for many, many years, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to ask for a blessing and for his funeral service to be conducted by their Bishop. Upon such notification, the Bishop and his staff immediately headed to Eddie’s home to speak with him about his wishes, even though it was almost midnight. They proceeded with a blessing that night along with a commitment to conduct the funeral services. The Lord had blessed Eddie indeed. Preceding Eddie in death are his father, William Clyde Seay; his mother, Billie Rue Seay; a sister, Brenda Gail Seay; and, one child, Valerie Rhea Seay. Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of over 13 years, Denise; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Gary McDearmont of Angleton, Texas along with their two children Gary Colton and Taylor Michelle McDearmont; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron Lane and Casandra Hadley of Canton, Georgia along with their two children Sheridan and Lachlan Hadley; daughter, Mariah Rhealene Butterfield of Clute, Texas; son, Ronnie Hooper of Freeport, Texas; son, Steven Hooper of Houston, Texas; son, Mike Hooper of Houston, Texas; sister, Nancy Shavor of Beeville, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Donald Foster of Lake Jackson, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Karen Seay of Boise, Idaho; along with numerous nieces and nephews and childhood cousins from around Texas.
