Born October 14, 1943 to Pedro Perez and Paula Gonzales Perez, Lalo’s early and youthful years were spent on his family’s homestead in Rio Grande City, Texas. He attributed his tenacity and diligent work ethic to the times in his youth, working on ranches and in the crop fields. This hard work instilled lasting and valuable lessons that were impressed upon in him, not only for the remainder of his working career, but throughout all the avenues in his life.
Everardo graduated from Rio Grande City High School where he played football. He attended college at Texas A&I where he also honorably served six years in the Texas National Guard.
On December 23, of 1966; Everardo married his college sweetheart, Annie Cantu, in Wharton, Texas. This past year Ed and Annie celebrated Fifty-five years of marriage. They were blessed with three sons: Lito, Joey, and Eli.
Everardo and his family lived in Wharton when he began a career in the Instrumentation Department at Dow Chemical, working as an instrumentation and analytical technician, which eventually led him to Lake Jackson. After retiring from Dow, he enjoyed playing golf and hunting for a season, but then decided to join the work force once again and began contracting through Testronics, TASC, and Wood Group. Ed shared many wonderful memories of his co-workers, including the engineers from India and Saudi Arabia. Ed easily made friends with many engineers, whom affectionately would refer to Ed as “PaPaw”. Ed loved his work at Dow and was the kind of man who seized the day starting at the crack of dawn, ready to face opportunities, challenges, and demands. Everardo had a passion for life, and he loved his family dearly. He was known for his quick wit and humor; there was always laughter in his presence. Listening to his hunting stories was a highlight during family events.
As an avid outdoorsman, Ed really enjoyed playing golf, as well as various game sport hunting. Opening weekend of white-wing season was a highly anticipated yearly tradition with the James Peterson Family and friends. His life was also filled with sporting activities that involved his sons’ baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, football and swimming. He was always there to support, encourage, inspire and teach. He proudly coached many of the teams that his sons were apart of.
Everardo will be greatly missed by his family, his dear friends, and the congregation at The Rock Church where he was a member. He had a generous, giving heart and found ways to be of service to others. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Lalo will be remembered for his legacy of love and endless humor. Precious memories will remain etched in the minds and heart of his grandchildren as they lovingly reflect about their grandfather “Papaw Lalo.”
Everardo Perez is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Annie C. Perez and his three sons, Lito and his wife Bridget from Missouri City, Texas, Joey Perez from Dallas, Texas, and Eli and his wife Casey from Lake Jackson, Texas. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Gabrielle, Miquelle, Abigail, Trey, Ethan, Aiden, Payton, and Dylan Perez.
In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Baldemar and his wife, Irma, Pedro and his wife, Elodia, Ramiro and his wife, Cynthia; Sisters, Paula Alvarez, Carmen Morin, Irma Alvarez and Hilda Ben, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, The Perez Family requests donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
