Gertrude Lux, 100, of Lake Jackson TX was called home to the Lord on August 19, 2016 in Houston TX. Gertrude was born on September 18, 1915 to loving parents Emil & Annie Dahse in Osage, TX. Gertrude married Victor Lux on October 14, 1936 in Schulenberg TX and they were together for more than sixty years until his passing in 1997.
Gertrude was a tough, hardworking woman who grew up in a rural farming community near New Bielau TX. She would wake up early each morning to milk the cows, plow the fields, and then help her siblings get ready and out the door for school. She would watch the kids as they walked, making sure they kept pace to be on time. Gertrude learned to speak English in the 5th grade; and never forgot the work ethic she learned as a child.
As a teenager she was known for being involved in Tennis during high school; including going to state championships each year and winning multiple times.
In her adult life she had two beautiful daughters; Gladys and Margie who grew up to have their own beautiful families whom she loved dearly. She had many other ‘children’ whom she loved and babysat for while she ran a babysitting business for many years in Lake Jackson.
Gertrude loved to be busy; always working with her hands, doing embroidery, needlework, and was a talented seamstress. She was an avid gardener, tremendous cook, and shared her talent with her children and grandchildren. She loved to pay bingo, bunko, dominoes, and canasta. She was a kind and loving woman who was a great influence on those around her and she will be sorely missed.
Gertrude was an active member of St. Michaels until she was unable to continue her regular attendance upon moving to the nursing home in Houston near her daughters and grandchildren.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Victor, and her sister Leona Helmcamp.
Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Gladys Turney and Margie (husband Marty) Dobbins; her grandchildren, Scott (wife Natalie) Turney, Renee (husband Reggie) Henderson, Michelle (husband Brian) Fishbeck, Erica (husband Beau) McBeth, and Cameron Dobbins. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Sean (Kelsey), Nicole, Sarah, Andy, Kirsten, Blake, Brenna, Avenlea, and Chase; and one great-great-granddaughter Teagan. She is also survived by her sisters Minnie Callender and Grace (husband Wilfred) Wick; as well as many other extended family and friends.
