James Gilbert Staten, 59, of Houston was called home on April 12 in Richwood, Texas. James was born October 2, 1958 in Lancaster, Ohio to Bill and Diane Staten. James married Carol Hoffman in Alvin, Texas at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on April 24, 1982.
James was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and Pop Pop. He loved his 3 grandkids - "Pop Pop's Posse." He was married to his wife and best friend for 35 years. James was a training manager for Weiner's for 20 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and time with his family. James was an avid Houston sports fan. He loved the Astros, Texans, Rockets, and especially the Houston Oilers. He loved going to the Astros games and all sporting events with his son. He never minded being his daughter's biggest cheerleader and support system in all that she did.
James was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gilbert Staten and father, William Donald Staten. Survivors include his wife, Carol Staten; children, Jessica (Noah) Marton, Michael (Shelbi) Staten; grandchildren, Caitlyn Marton, Karson Staten, Kenna Staten; fur baby, Bella Butts; mother, Diane Staten; brother John (Dawn) Staten; and mother-in-law Glenda Paul.
Honorary pallbearers are Michael Staten, John Staten, Noah Marton, Bubba Hoffman, Clay Ruyle, Stanley Sukal, and Hugo Valdez.
Rosary and memorial services will be Thursday, April 19 at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, Texas. Rosary will begin at 11:00 a.m. and memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. A meal will be served after the services at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
In leu of flowers, the family requests that money be donated to the Spondylitis Association of America.
