

Joe Franklin Travis died peacefully at Houston’s Hermann Memorial Hospital on March 20, 2016. He was 83 years old. Joe was born in a log cabin on February 28, 1933 to Finis Bryant and Bessie Golden Travis. Through his early years he lived in Tennessee, California, and Arkansas finally settling in Texas; of all the places he lived, Joe loved Texas most.
In 1951 he started a long career at Freeport’s Dow Chemical Company. He began as an operator and retired as a Research Maintenance Supervisor in 1985. He loved fishing and deer hunting not for the fish or the deer but for the pure enjoyment of being in the outdoors with this family and friends. More importantly he had a profound and unwavering love for the Lord and was a faithful Christian for decades.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janelle Parten Travis, his four children, Jo Ann Travis-Evans, Paul and wife Melanie Travis, Bess and husband, John Buck and, Ruth and husband, Joel Swedlund. He is also survived by the grandchildren he loved so deeply, Brent and Bryan Evans, Taylor and Sydney Travis, Matthew and Jonathan Buck, Catherine, Joseph, and Nathan Swedlund. He is also survived by Janie Travis Cornelius, and his sister Linda Gail Travis along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation of friends and family will be held on Friday March 25 2016 at Restwood Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 26th at 10 am at Restwood Funeral Home.
Interment immediately following funeral services in Angleton Cemetery.
