On the afternoon of October 2, 2016 Marjorie passed away peacefully of natural causes. Marjorie was being visited and comforted by family members at the Silverado Memory Care facility in Kingwood, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Restwood Funeral Home 1038 West Plantation Dr, Clute, TX 77531.
Marjorie was born November 18, 1930 in Arrow Rock, Missouri. She was the fifth child of eight born to Herbert Lee and Minnie Mosette (Fisher) Baker. The Baker family moved to Bay City, Texas in 1941 and eventually settled in Lake Jackson. Marjorie worked at the Austin Construction Co. after graduating from West Columbia High School where she was a member of the band, track team and basketball team that played in the 1948 state championship tournament.
Marjorie met and married the love of her life Jimmie Percy English on March 28, 1951. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in the Women’s Circle. She took great joy and pride in participating in the lives and events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jimmie Percy English, her parents Herbert Lee and Minnie Mosette (Fisher) Baker, sisters Julie Ann Baker, Sallie Pearl Poindexter, Emma and husband Charley Brown, Virginia “Jinx” and husband Paul McNutt, brother James Lyle Baker; in-laws James Jones, Armand and Ester English, Leo and Dardnelle English, Waiford and Jeanette English, Robert English and Horace and Francis Stanley.
She is survived by her brother Herbert Lee “Buddy” Baker and wife Jo; sister Linda Rae Pelham and husband Royce; children Gregory Lee English and wife Susan, Mark Vincent English and wife Janel and Darla LaReese Winkelmann and husband Nathan; grandchildren Linda English, Justin English, Percy English, Casey Shelley, Haley Mica, Courtney Wilson, Carlee Wright, Katie Swarr and Marylynn Stevens; nine great grandchildren; in-laws Margaret Matlock Baker, Millie English, Martha Jean Jones; and a great number of nephews and nieces (too many to count!).
Pallbearers will be Justin English, Percy English, Brent Mica, Bruce Shelley, Blake Wilson, Jeffery Wright and Michael Swarr.
Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Kruse Village in Brenham and to Silverado Memory Care and the Hospice staff in Kingwood.
