Richard Louis Speed of Brazoria Tx, beloved husband of Sandie Speed, passed away at home on Monday, March 15, at age 74 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Richard was born August 7, 1946 in Freeport and was a lifelong resident of Brazoria County.
Richard was a graduate of Brazosport High School and served in the Army from 1969-1971. He then worked for Dow Chemical for 28 years until his retirement to become "Mr. Mom" and care for his daughter Breanne.
Richard loved the water. Water skiing behind his house on the San Bernard River or deep sea fishing and scuba diving in the Gulf of Mexico were his passions.
Richard was well known for his kind, happy and helpful nature.
He was like a son to his mother-in-law, Betty Rio, taking her to volunteer at the hospital and visiting just about everyday in her last years.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sadie Speed, his daughter, Breanne Speed, and grandchildren Kale Parker and Bailey Adkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coma Lee and Tommy Speed, and his brothers, Terry and Garvin Speed. The Speeds were among the first 100 families of Lake Jackson.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to Savannah Martinez for being Richard's caregiver in his last years.
The family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
