Salvatore John Pianettini

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Salvatore John Pianettini, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather who left us peacefully on January 4, 204 at the age of 92. Salvatore was born on July 2, 1932, to John and Sarah Pianettini.

Sal was a devoted husband to Ida Pianettini and an incredible father to Denise and Jack Leinweber and Jeffrey Gash. He is also a cherished grandfather to Carlos Mata, Christopher (Tamara) Mata and Destiny Grey. He is step grandfather to Jennifer Beckcom and family. He also was a great grandfather to Raelee and Kendrick Mata. He is also survived by his brother, John Pianettini and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His love for family was unparalleled and he always made sure we knew how deeply he cared, no matter the distance or circumstance.

A man of remarkable strength and wisdom, Sal worked as an engineer on the Sr-71 Blackbird spy plane as well as on nuclear submarines and the Apache helicopter. He was so good at his job, that once retired he was asked to come back. He was well respected in his fields of work. But it was the quiet moments at home, surrounded by those who loved him most that he shined the brightest. Whether it was giving us advice, telling a funny story, or simply being there whenever we needed him. He always made everyone feel equally important.

He had a heart full of kindness. Not many know this, but for 30 years he donated a large amount to St. Jude hospital no matter what his circumstances were. He was funny and always had a heartwarming story to tell us or a compassionate ear to listen or help. He always tried to take the time to spend with family or friends. He is forever going to echo in our hearts and be our guardian angel.
