Stephen was born in Australia although he was a New Zealand citizen and carried his heritage close to heart. He moved with his family across the globe from Australia to Belgium, then to Wisconsin before finally landing in Texas. Stephen met the love of his life, Amy, during a college summer internship in Wisconsin. Amy later moved to El Paso and their journey together began. They were the love of each other's lives and anyone interacting with them could witness their dedication to each other and their family. Amy and Stephen were married June 1, 1991, and began their family in Louisiana with 3 amazing boys, Garrett, Mason, and Jonah.
They later moved to Lake Jackson, Texas. Not only were they highly involved with their boys, but they also were active in community soccer. Stephen coached boys’ soccer (teams Freedom, Justice and Liberty) for 20+ years where he impacted many young men's lives, instilling discipline and teamwork by both his teaching and example. He worked at Dow for over 30 years as a highly respected metallurgical engineer. However, his passion was clearly his family. He was a force of nature, determined to love his family and love life. He had passion for soccer, rugby, motorcycles, and sailing; as well as any game or sport that he could be competitive in with his sons. He was known to make any time spent together into a game and get those surrounding him involved. He was extremely proud of his sons and adored his grandsons, Liam and Carter; making trips and special memories every chance he had. Stephen will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Margaret Cross.
He is survived by wife Amy (married over 32 years); sons, Garrett (wife Megan), Mason, and Jonah; brother Geoff (wife Karen) and nephew and nieces (Zach, Jenna and Jacqueline); and two grandchildren (Liam and Carter). He also has numerous family members in New Zealand and Australia.
Stephen will be honored at a Celebration of Life on March 16, 2024, at Hidden Oaks (101 Hidden Oaks Lane, Angleton, Texas). Visitation with family will begin at 9:30 am with short service starting at 10 am followed by light snacks and drinks to celebrate Stephen.
