

Thelma Leone Poorbaugh Zeitler, age 95, passed away on July 18, 2013. Thelma was born on January 5, 1918 to Edna Leona Witt and Ralph Andrew Poorbaugh in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. As a young teacher, Thelma met and married Vernon Arthur Zeitler. They were married on Valentine’s Day, 1942. In later years, Thelma and Vernon traveled, researched and compiled several books on genealogy. Thelma was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson for 57 years and was actively involved in many organizations throughout her life, including: Scouting with her 3 sons and daughter, Member and Past Regent of the Asa Underwood Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Member and Past Regent of the Henry Boston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonists, Member and Past President of the Lake Jackson Chapter of the American Association of University Women, as well as, a Member of various Historical and Genealogical Societies, including Brazoria County and City of Lake Jackson.Family and friends have always been the most important part of Thelma’s life and, in return, she has been a very special person to those whose lives she has touched.After 55 years of marriage, Vernon preceded her in death in l997. Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ralph Arthur Poorbaugh. Thelma is survived by her four children, Arthur William Zeitler (Carol), Eric Ralph Zeitler, Kurt Vernon Zeitler, Karlene Beolia Zeitler Maas (George); 5 Grandchildren, Suzanne Wight Wilson, Kevin Arthur Zeitler, Geoffrey Edward Maas, Connor Harrison Maas, Casey Caroline Maas; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Hannah Jarvis Wilson and Logan Solomon Wilson. Thelma is also survived by her sister, Marlene Poorbaugh Teichert, and her brother, Karl Poorbaugh (Mary Ann), as well as many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Restwood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Lake Jackson on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Restwood Memorial Park with Geoff Maas, Connor Maas, George Maas, Gary Reyes and Kevin Zeitler serving as pallbearers.Online condolences may be left for the family of Thelma Zeitler at www.restwoodfuneralhome.com.
