Tomasa Torres Cruz

Tomasa Cruz, of Richwood, was born, Wednesday, September 21, 1921 in Eagle Lake, Texas to Donicio and Francisca Landeros Torres and died Monday, August 9, 2010 in Clute, Texas at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 19 days.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for the Russell Café for several years and retired from the BISD after many years of service. She had been a member and attended St. Jerome Catholic Church since 1975. She enjoyed arts & crafts, antiques, collecting knick-knacks, and garage sales! She was a great cook and would cook for the grandchildren and her specialty was tamales! She was a seamstress and would make her children’s clothes, when they were younger.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Constancio Cruz; daughter, Mary Helen Cruz; brothers, Bill Torres & Delfino Torres; sisters, Virginia Castillo, Jovita Alvarado, Sophia Tapia, Esperanza Domingues and a son-in-law, Alonzo Ramirez.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, David & Sulema Cruz of Liberty Hill, Texas; daughters & sons-in-law, Eva & Ruben Santos Sr. of Richwood, Suse Ramirez of Richwood, Ophilia & Rocky Martinez of Richwood; brother, Antonio Torres of Houston; sister, Anita Tapia of Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tomasa’s caregivers, Monica Pelaez, Isabel Marquez, the Staff of Village on the Creek, and A-Med Hospice Care.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Rosary to be at 7:00 pm in the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the St. Jerome Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Restwood Memorial Park with Martin Martinez, Ruben Santos Sr., Henry Santos, Derrick Miles, Aaron Santos and Adrian Zavala, Jr. serving as pallbearers.
