Tommie learned the value of hard work at a young age. He took his first job at the age of 7 delivering newspapers. Tommie returned to Texas in late 1954 and began a career with Humble Oil Company (Exxon) spanning 39 years until his retirement in 1993. His first assignment was to Humble’s Scott and Hopper Camp near Presidio, Texas. It was there he met his future bride, Phyllis Langen. They were married on January 11, 1957 and went on to build a family of four children, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Tommie was a man of quiet fortitude who led by example. He was known for his devotion to family, strong work ethic, and self sufficient nature.
